Inside South Lake Tahoe’s New Food Hall, Cascade Kitchens

I LOVE a food hall. Armature Works in Tampa, Reno Public Market, Anaheim Packing District… These are all fun places I’ve loved visiting during my cross-country road trip over the past year. I guess if I had to sum up these places in just one word, it would be: cool.

Food halls with their assortment of local beers on tap, surrounded by murals on the walls and the constant chatter of people happily chowing down on their (probably overpriced) ramen or gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, just feel cool to me because I didn’t have them in the small Missouri town I grew up in (unless you count the mall food court that was a 30 minute drive away, which I definitely don’t).

So, you can imagine my delight when I found out that South Lake Tahoe had a brand new food hall and I finally got to check it out for myself!

Cascade Kitchens, which had their grand opening on August 5, 2025, is the first-of-its-kind food hall in South Lake, and is marketed as a “food hall and commissary kitchen.” As of publishing this, there are six restaurants featuring an array of different cuisines, as well as a bar.

Here’s the current line up:

The Thirsty Bear
Lil Beans Creamery & Deli
Maya-Ki Cafe
Moon’s Korean Kitchen
Pasta & Press
Tacomer Traditional Mexican Cuisine
Taste of Colombia

The struggle (and joy) of a place like this is that it’s hard to decide between all of the options, and I’ll definitely have to come back again until I’ve had a chance to try all the stalls. If you’re looking for a good spot to start though, multiple Yelp reviews rave about the the quesabirria from Tacomer, so that sounds like a crowd favorite so far!

I went right when they opened, so there were only a couple of other patrons inside and I was able to take pictures freely. I thought the vibe was very welcoming and there was plenty of seating. There was a little play area for kids near the front, a little merch section if you’re looking to grab a Cascade tote or t-shirt, and there was a free water station as well (stay hydrated out there, ya’ll).

There was also plenty of parking and it’s in a super convenient location, just a minute’s drive away from “the Y” if you’re familiar with town. It is tucked a little bit away from the main road though and I was pretty surprised to see that there weren’t any signs pointing in the direction of the food hall to attract new visitors. If you weren’t seeking it out directly, it’d be extremely easy to pass by without noticing it, so I’m a little worried that it won’t get the attention it deserves.

On the bright side though, Cascade Kitchens already has a full social calendar of fun events and I think that will be the main way they’re able to drive traffic through the doors! Past events include a kids cooking class, a wine night in partnership with Bella Grace Vineyards, Trunk or Treating on Halloween, live music performances, line dancing and more. I definitely recommend following their Instagram account (@cascadekitchens) to stay up to date with future events.

All in all, I think this is a fun addition to the South Lake food scene and I definitely imagine coming here with friends when we can’t decide on what grab for dinner, or even throwing it out there as a low-key first date spot. I’ll update here as new vendors join the mix, and in the meantime, I’d love to hear if you’ve had the chance to visit yet!
